Alfrank Neoclassical Floor Lamp

£1,550.00

This impressive floor lamp is a playful, post-modern look at neoclassicism. The base is shaped like a bow, and from that protrudes three straight columns, meeting at an ionic head. A half-moon uplighter completes the piece, which is made entirely of iron. The lamp is painted with a rag roll verdigris effect, which gives the impression of textured plaster – very Romanesque.

This piece was designed by Alfrank, an Irish company founded by architect Alfred Cochrane and interior designer Frank Carroll. They began supplying American showrooms in 1984, but by the end of the decade, as the US economy slowed, the company focussed their attention on the British and Irish markets. Their pieces were stocked in Harrods and Selfridges, and today remain gorgeous examples of post-modern design.

Alfred Cochrane is part of one of Lebanon’s most notable aristocratic families. His family own the Palais Sursock, which was badly damaged in the 2020 Beirut explosion. This lamp was one of the many design pieces to be found inside the opulent 160-year-old palace, before its recent part-destruction.

Please note this piece is currently wired for a UK plug, although this could be changed depending on your location.
